REFUSE AND RECYCLING
Republic Service Awarded Refuse Contract!
THE CARTS ARE COMING!
In an effort to secure the most cost-effective waste management solution, the Borough went out to bid to solicit proposals for trash and recycling services from various providers. By conducting a competitive bidding process, Hummelstown was able to identify the lowest-priced option while maintaining high standards for service quality.
To ensure that the borough's trash and recycling services met the needs of its residents, a group of community members actively participated in the bidding process. This group played a crucial role in establishing the specific requirements and expectations for the new contract.
Now with the bid results in, the borough is gearing up for a change in its trash collection services with a familiar face! A new 5-year contract has been awarded to a familiar provider, REPUBLIC SERVICES, who has been serving the community for the past decade. This new agreement will bring about a change to our collection process: The introduction of trash collection using vendor-supplied carts.
What does this mean for residents?
- Cost: GREAT NEWS! One of the biggest benefits is the competitive pricing. The 2025 rate of $95 per quarter will remain in place and is a welcome relief, especially considering the rising costs of other essential services in neighboring communities.
- Cart: This type of collection will streamline the process, making it easier for residents to dispose of their waste.
- Environmental Impact: Using carts can help reduce contamination and improve overall waste management practices.
- Services: The new contract includes continued bulk item pickup and yard waste service, ensuring that residents have all their disposal needs covered.
Here are the changes for you as a resident:
-
Carts: Every resident will receive a 95-gallon trash cart, and a 65-gallon recycle cart at no charge. These carts must be utilized beginning January 1. 2025. The carts will be delivered mid-December. All trash and recycling must be placed in the carts. Any bags or items left outside of the carts will not be collected.
-
Placement of the Carts: Please place your recycling and trash in front of your home on the curb. There will no longer be alley service effective January 1, 2025.
-
All residents whose home fronts on an alley must place their trash and recycling curbside on the nearest public street. Please see the map below for addresses this will impact.
