Recycling of Computers, Computer Monitors, Televisions and Other Electronic Devices
The Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA), passed in November of 2010, is a state law which addresses the recycling and disposal of certain “covered” electronic devices in Pennsylvania. “Covered Devices” include desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals, and televisions.
On January 24, 2013 it became mandatory that these devices be recycled. Landfills and other solid waste disposal facilities in Pennsylvania will no longer be allowed to accept covered devices or their components. Because of this York Waste Disposal will no longer be picking these items up curbside.
Dauphin County’s electronics recycling center is open Monday through Friday and one Saturday a month. County residents can drop off items free of charge from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The center is located off South Cameron Street at 1620 South 19th Street.
